Route Overview:
Head east on US Route 66 through Berry, Walapai, Hackberry, Valentine, Truxton, Peach Springs, Grand Canyon Caverns, Pica, Audley ending up at Seligman. At Seligman enter Interstate 40 going east. I will only be on the superslab for about two miles until I turn off onto Williamson Valley Road (FR6). Continue south on FR95 and then on FR21 into Bagdad. At Bagdad turn east on Arizona Route 96. Turn south on Arizona Route 97 until it intersects with US Route 93. Go South on US Route 93. US 93 will intersect with US Route 60. Stay on US 60 into Phoenix.

Today's ride should be very good. I have traveled from Needles, AZ to Flagstaff on Interstate 40 when I visited the Grand Canyon. That was a good ride as I recall. I remember a fast stop at Seligman and then a mad dash to get back into the car and across the train tracks before a lumbering freight closed our escape route for what appears to be a long wait. After doing some reading, I decided to eliminate a mostly Interstate ride from Seligman to Flagstaff, off the Interstate to Sedona and then back out to Interstate 17 headed south to Phoenix. Instead, I plan on heading out on minor roads to Bagdad (what a great name) ultimately connecting with US Route 60. Then its onto Phoenix. In all this change in plans makes for a longer day in terms of time in the saddle but less mileage. The scenery should be great and I have an extra day to rest in Phoenix followed by a short ride to Tucson.
