DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS
Expected Date of Travel: Friday April 20, 2001

Departing from: Galveston Texas

Arriving at: New Orleans Louisiana

Expected Mileage: 340.0 miles or 547.5 kilometers traveled in 6 hours 34 minutes. Planned route of travel is 84% on Interstate Highway, 0% on non-Interstate highways, 15% on state highways or minor roads and 1% on city streets. (Travel time does not include gas stops, food stops or any sightseeing).

Average Rate of Travel: 51.8 miles per hour or 83.4 kilometers per hour

Route Overview:

Today is my last day in Texas. Depart Galveston headed east to the ferry that crosses the Bolivar Roads.

Once on the other side of the channel continue on Texas Route 87 to the intersection with Texas route 124. Turn onto Route124 north to Interstate 10. Enter Interstate 10 eastbound.

Comments

Today's route is nearly all highway driving. Almost 300 miles on Interstate 10 to New Orleans.

As an alternate, I could cut that highway distance by about half, leaving I-10 at Louisiana Route 182 / US Route 90 to Morgan City and Houma. That might give some view of some back country. It will all depend on weather, attitude and rest. That route results in a modest mileage increase to 371 miles (+31) and 7:49 duration (+1:15).
